Prevention Worker
Work directly with individuals and families on prevention strategies, education programs and community outreach.
Summary of the position
As a Prevention Worker, you will work directly with individuals and families, focusing on prevention strategies and providing resources to help avoid future issues. This role involves delivering educational programs, coordinating community outreach, and supporting individuals in accessing necessary services. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to public health, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping others.
Responsibilities and duties
- Conduct individual and group sessions to educate on risk factors and healthy coping strategies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and service providers
- Provide resources and referrals to clients for additional support services
- Monitor and track client progress and provide follow-up as needed
- Participate in community events to raise awareness and educate the public
- Keep up to date with current trends and best practices in prevention work
- Research and develop program plans for implementation of prevention services
- Develop and expand campaigns that are relative and responsive to community needs
- Evaluate the effectiveness of activities, education sessions and projects
- Establish and maintain files on all activities of service delivery
- Prepare and submit work plans and reports to the Health Director
- Coordinate workshops for individuals or groups upon request or identified needs, for example anger management, addictions, family violence, healthy parenting
- Assist with workshops and events put on by the health department when needed
- Maintain positive working relationships with clients
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor degree in Social Work or Indian Social Work from a recognized university
- Ability to understand family dynamics (strengths, deficits, etc.)
- Working with minimal supervision and prioritizing multiple demands
- Demonstrating initiative and adaptability
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathetic and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Proficient with computers, for example Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Must possess a valid driver's licence
- Criminal record check is a mandatory requirement
